萧寒带着付大虎、杨秋草和江海生来到山头小路，这正是我防御漏洞所在，他画出来，让江海生送给林东野。江海生带着萧寒的信来到林东野阵地，被哨兵拦住。在他与哨兵理论时，张恒出现，命令哨兵开枪打伤江海生。萧寒和付大虎、杨秋草预埋地雷。日军果如萧寒预料的那样出现了，萧寒与日军交火。在敌强我弱弹尽粮绝的情况下，萧寒巧妙周旋。胡子明带着阿玉等政工队其他人前来参战，从未上过战场的他们非但帮不上忙，反而添了乱，萧寒不得不分神保护他们，结果被日军困在山洞里。萧寒带着大家冲出山洞，与守在洞口的日军交火，萧寒用声音迷惑敌人。但政工队学生根本没有作战经验，加之武器的缺乏，形势十分危险。
