当各门派欲施展看家本领争夺屠龙刀时，金毛狮王突然出现，力指海沙派与巨鲸帮等恶行后，不分青红皂白滥杀一番。翠山理直气壮直斥其非，金毛狮王以「狮子吼」令各派中人失忆，并将山、素带走，以防其向外泄露屠龙刀去向，只有天鹰派之白龟寿幸免于难。 昆仑派何太冲赶至现场时，发现各派弟子痴痴呆呆，对宝刀去向一无所知，大感疑惑。后发现翠山留下惯用兵器，以为是他持刀远走高飞，连往武当山问罪，令武当弟子对翠山安危更表焦虑。 金毛狮王声言要离开中原这是非之地，远赴荒岛清静地钻研屠龙刀秘密。原来金毛狮王年前因过于信任别人，被一最敬爱的人害至家破人亡，故欲求助于屠龙刀，以报此血海深仇。但声言当找到刀中奥秘后，会将素、山置诸死地，令二人大为担心。 何太冲等对寻回宝刀束手无策，从蛛丝马迹发现宝刀被金毛狮王夺去，欲四处追寻白龟寿以图查出下落，边与崆峒派等争相追寻。
