铁锤告诉小海，只要他拿动了玄天锤，就可以走了。小海认为小菜一碟，结果使尽了力气也没法拿动锤子。铁锤让小海继续训练，小海拒绝，认为自己足以跟年魔作战。铁锤为了让小海知道自己的无知，跟小海过招，小海根本不是铁锤的对手。小海终于知道自己错了，并将打败铁锤作为自己的目标，开始每天努力吃饭训练。过了一阵，小海又觉得训练很无聊，并对铁锤每天早出晚归感兴趣。多来米偷听到乌鸦和长嘴大眼的对话，知道年魔就要到来，小海跑去将消息告诉铁锤，告诉铁锤火焰山就要爆发，但铁锤似乎无动于衷。原来铁锤每天都在敲打雪山，决定将冰山一角凿入火焰山口，熄灭火焰山，小海决定帮助铁锤将冰山凿断。晚上小海跟踪长嘴大眼发现了铁锤的地下室，知道了铁锤就是上古神牛，是那个挑战年魔的勇士。铁锤告诉了小海八十年前的故事，是年魔将这里变成了火焰山，而他自己也因为年少气盛导致牛家军的惨败而内疚。
