小老鼠多来米为了偷吃贡品，跟随一对夫妇到了灵堂，听到他们许愿，求祖先赐给他们一个孩子。赶来寻找多来米的灶王爷，意外知道了那对夫妇求得的孩子，竟然是紫魁星转世。三千年前，发生了“九星连珠”的天象，天下黑暗。妖兽——年，利用这一时期妄图霸占天下，毁灭众生。紫魁星就在这时候下凡，与守护大地的十二圣兽一起联手打败了年，将他封印在年魔岛上，人间才得以安宁。新的“九星连珠”时间只剩下几年了，届时年魔将会冲破封印再度危害人间。对付年魔的唯一希望，就是作为紫魁星转世的小海。但原本的小海只是一个普通的孩子，必须找到十二地支守护灵兽，学到他们的绝世功夫，用自己强大的能力结合起来，要想成为真正的紫魁星，打败年魔！灶王爷发誓要帮助小海成为紫魁星。七年过去了，小海已经成长为一个活泼的孩子。而封印中的年魔，也马上就要觉醒过来。
