大工の棟梁辰三（根岸一正）の妹お絹（賀田裕子）は旗本御三家の一つ越川伊織（佐藤仁哉）の屋敷に奉公していた。この伊織の屋敷には評判の悪い旗本角倉源八郎（椎谷建冶）が、金の無心に出入りしていた。角倉は伊織の亡くなった妻の実兄だった。お絹は角倉をきらっていたが、角倉は美しいお絹を好色な目で見ていた。町で角倉とその悪仲間たちが左門（伊吹吾郎）をいためつけるのを見た辰三は、角倉とかかわりのある伊織の屋敷に妹がいるのをきらい、妹にひまをもらうように言う。だが、伊織を慕っているお絹は首をたてにふらない。そのうちにとうとう、伊織の留守に金を盗みに来た角倉が、留守番のお絹を犯し、殺して井戸へ投げ込む。妹の身に異変が起ったことを知った辰三は、木更津の元締に仕事料を託し、伊織の屋敷にのりこむが……。
