昭和25年、金田一耕助（古谷一行）は、座光寺玄蔵（伴勇太郎）の遺産相続の代理人を依頼され、京都の法師村を訪れた。遺言状には、座光寺家とは縁もゆかりもない宮本俊作（高川裕也）と、座光寺音禰（安永亜衣）に6億5千万円を譲渡すると書かれていた。ただし、相続するには、両名が結婚しなければならないという条件付きだった。俊作の母・薫（大谷直子）も、音禰の父・雷蔵（鶴田忍）もその条件に納得しない。 その夜、座光寺家で行われた宴席で薫が毒を盛られる事件が起こる。やがて退院した薫に俊作は、音禰の妹・由香利（武田京子）と結婚したいと打ち明けた。だが薫の許しは出ず、俊作は由香利と駆け落ちすることを決意。しかし由香利は俊作との待ち合わせ場所に向かう途中、何者かに殺害され、首のない胴体だけが座光寺家の蔵の中に…。
