文宾带兵欲引开宁王军队，但却发现没有追兵；文宾估计宁王军队应该得悉刘瑾计策而前往追截皇上。为了替皇上解困，文宾决意偷袭宁王军队，却因而遇上神尼阻止。刘瑾带皇上与凤姐等人逃离梅龙县时，竟突然遇上一帮自称是宁王派来的杀手；当众人激战时，又有另一批黑衣人出现，竟也称是宁王派来的。 得老虎等人缠绕神尼，文宾带火把冲往峰火台欲燃点以令宁王军回头，但却被官兵拦下；看到文宾如此不济，老虎尝试以一己神勇，把着火长矛掷向峰火台，可惜力度过大，竟直飞往宁王军营。枝山带王家女眷逃难，但看到众女娇生惯养的模样，终忍不住说出文宾与老虎及三娘身犯险境，以助皇上脱险；众女大惊之际，却传来宁王败走的消息。皇上等人回到梅龙镇，提出要封功臣文宾为八府巡抚；文宾欲向皇上说出真正功臣乃老虎时，因皇上已走远，终被刘瑾阻止。 王家听得文宾被封，认为是最大功臣的老虎应可出任朝中大官；但想不到老虎只被文宾重新委任成为保长。为免儿子伤心，并蒂决定大洒金钱收买众街坊。凤姐被刘瑾追杀，向文宾求救。
