山流しと甲府勤番を忌避する旗本たち、その中にあって偉そうに心得を説く大久保頼母。こいつも勤番が嫌で御数寄屋坊主に図り裏で回避策を巡らすが、普段の言動がもとで勤番支配方を仰せつかってしまう。彼の怒りは、金をとって何の甲斐もなかった御数寄屋坊主と、最後の工作資金を貸してくれなかった知る辺の料理屋に向かう。事を隠蔽するため更なる悪行を重ねる一味だが、町場をうろつき回っている上様の知るところとなり、甲府城で得々と就任挨拶している席へ乗り込まれてしまうのだった。
