侍になりたいという研師の息子に、中間の奉公先を世話する辰五郎。しかし頼んだ先が悪く、普請奉行の殿様は辻斬りを嗜むいかれた男で、凶行に及ぶ得物が神君拝領の刀というとんでもない奴。しかも夜鳴き蕎麦の老爺と孫娘を殺った際に刀を損じ、これがもとで恥をかいたと研師を無礼討ちにするに及び上様と辰五郎ブチ切れ。研師の息子も斬られかかるところへ乱入し、繰り出される人数を叩きのめしたあと、普請奉行を取り押さえ仇をとらせてやる。
