受专职家庭主妇婆婆山下昌子的委托，媳妇彩矢去买用来做晚餐汤的南瓜后失踪了。隔日仍无法取得联系，彩矢的丈夫、律师翔太向警察提交失踪者报告。彩矢也是大型法律事务所的律师，因此警视厅认为这不是单纯的失踪案件，于是将调查任务交给“紧急事件审讯对应班”。有希子立刻前往山下家的公寓调查，担心彩矢安全的昌子再看到搬运大型行李箱的犯罪嫌疑人影像后，提供了重要的证据。在一个月前，在儿子夫妇的家门口也曾看到过这个疑犯。不久，有目击者看到穿着大衣的男人把行李箱放到租赁车上，调查后发现租赁人竟然是昌子。就在这时，翔太声称自己杀了妻子并自首了。但有希子确信昌子才是真正的犯人，请求昌子作为重要证人接受调查，但昌子拒绝了这个请求，提出单独和有希子在自家会面的要求。
