遭奸人陷害，廖晞不得已离家出逃，趁着天没亮匆匆离开兴化。刚上船，被八爷围上，廖晞与他们博弈之间，海面狂风大作，一个大浪将船掀翻，众人纷纷被浪卷走。廖晞被冲上海岸，被财岛上的海匪们所救，面对海匪刀疤的盘问，廖晞谎称姓陈。说话间，八爷和几个海匪过来，一眼认出廖晞，八爷立即命人将廖晞绑了起来。岛主梅婆婆和女儿梅骆丹回来，看到生人廖晞，询问出了什么事？八爷说廖晞杀了他的两个兄弟，劫了他的货船，廖晞矢口否认。梅骆丹见廖晞是条汉子，决定将他留在财岛。此后，廖晞留在财岛做事，廖晞在岛上这段时间，发现每个人的长处：强子和石头是码头上讨生活的，颠过大勺，扛过包，什么都干过，苏哲是小木匠，大发是泥瓦匠。
