转眼间，初平已长大成人，与二娘同遭大娘刻薄，但大娘之亲生儿初起则与初平等相处甚好。初平因放羊关系而认识青儿，二人感情融洽。 宫中，飞龙太子亦长得威武不凡，武功才智出众，甚得皇帝欢心。 一日，飞龙到清阳观替皇帝祈福，三太子欲乘机暗杀飞龙，初平机绿巧合撞破阴谋，救了飞龙一命，飞龙答允日后有缘必报回初平救命之恩。 青儿遭唐公子调戏，初平、初起兄弟挺身相救，并教训唐公子一顿，唐公子心生不忿，放火烧黄家，二娘惨遭烧死，初平报官告唐公子，但唐公子买通贪官，初平反遭诬陷。 初平被判入监，在狱中助老伯邬有做苦工，邬有感激之余送一医书予初平，后邬有不知所踪，初平才醒悟出邬有乃神仙，遂专心钻研医术，并替狱卒医病，因而在狱中之待遇得以改善。
