生性纯厚的阿纯本为孽子，与疯母刘玉凤得酒厂九铺香老板古世龙同情，收留二人住在牛棚，吃餸头餸尾。世龙收回一批出问题的上等酒古麴酒，决返酒厂从米棚、发酵、蒸煮、储存、勾对到盛酒六部彻查原因，不果。世龙认为问题应出于蒸煮房，主管裘真不服；另外，世龙指其兄古世熊掌管的勾对房亦责无旁贷，世熊即认为他存心针对。阿纯见众人事持不下，故意打破酒樽分散各人注意，世龙妹古瑶感激。 阿纯无意中发现酒味有异的原因。古瑶因与裘真相恋，感激阿纯替裘真洗脱罪名，欲提升他，阿纯却不敢邀功。阿纯送酒办却不够钱过河，与负责拉横顺水渡的黎顺风结怨。顺风与弟顺水使计救出误堕天仙局的老父翠九斤，却被发现及追赶，顺风逃上货船并将大汉打退，阿纯恰巧在货船上休息，半睡半醒间竟见顺风在船上更衣。
