平岭市保春制药厂的青年女工祝四萍在药厂扩建工地遇害，死者家属将厂方告上法庭要求赔偿。大学毕业刚到北京中亚律师事务所工作的年轻律师韩丁在中年律师林必成的带领下一同来到平岭，担当药厂的律师。在观看发型表演时，韩丁被制药厂董事长罗保春之女、模特罗晶晶深深吸引。法庭上，罗保春与原告方发生争执，引发心脏病送给了医院。弥留之际的罗保春将药厂及其所有财产全部留给女儿罗晶晶。在林必成的同学、平岭市公安局刑侦大队长姚大维请客的饭桌上，韩林二人得知罗保春的死讯。深夜，韩丁接到了制药厂办公室王主任约他见面的神秘电话。
