伊达一义为了惩罚逃脱法律制裁的罪犯，却把久远健志卷了进来，因此受到了三上国治的谴责。伊达认为久远很像过去的自己而不肯放手。 此时杀伤了十一名无辜受害人的无差别杀人犯椎名高弘，被判定为精神失常得以无罪释放。 久远发现受害者之中，只有一名女高中生皆濑桃子被刺了三次，于是指出犯人原本要杀的目标就只有桃子，并且是伪装精神失常而已。 伊达听到了久远的话，也认定犯人并不是无罪的，于是趁着三天休假前往桃子的家。但桃子的父亲士郎则回答桃子和椎名一点关联也没有。 之后伊达调查了桃子的手机通话记录，她曾接到朋友柏木奈美的短信“那家伙到店里来了”。伊达于是去寻访了奈美工作的KTV，但奈美却想不起自己发过这样的短信。并且伊达要求店长调用店里的监控录像，也因为伊达是在休假的刑警而遭到拒绝。此时宫城明日香出现并出示了警员证。
