四位主人公都是上世纪70年代生长于釜山的男孩，他们自幼一起长大，后来成为了形影不离的朋友，故事以男性观众为主要诉求，剧中环绕着友情、道义、背叛以及年少的回忆，此外还添加了爱情的线索。 父亲是釜山黑社会头目的李俊锡（金民俊饰）从学生时代开始就表现出卓越的领导才能并有一帮兄弟跟随，长大后更是成为釜山黑社会呼风唤雨的首脑人物。孤独反叛的韩东秀（玄彬饰）本来跟随俊锡做事，但因为犯罪而入狱，出狱后的东秀逐渐聚集了属于自己的势力，成为组织的核心人物，与昔日的好朋友俊锡展开决斗。在和睦的家庭环境中长大的郑尚泽（徐道英饰）从名门大学毕业后成为了优秀的新闻工作者，走上了记者之路。总是乐观向上的金忠浩（李时言饰）则在釜山做着各种各样的小生意，享受平凡生活的乐趣。四个从小一起玩耍的好朋友因为不同的成长经历走上了完全不同的道路，四人之间深厚的友情将随着剧情的发展而逐渐呈现。
