2007年6月初的中国北江，阳光照耀在这个中国北方的海港城市。北江市公安局年轻的刑警夏远正在工作，他的未婚妻于小卉来到公安局，给大家送自己亲手包的饺子，正巧碰上夏远的师父、刑警支队长杨建群也在，他特意给夏远放了假，让他们回家吃饭，好好休息一下。这天也是杨建群和妻子王俐的结婚纪念日，杨建群买了花，王俐也做了一桌子菜，准备好好共度纪念日。这时杨建群的妹妹杨建秋来到家里，她是专科毕业生，还没找到工作，正在为怎么留在北江发愁。杨建秋给王俐买了礼物，言语中谈及找工作的事，王俐对这个农村来的妹妹一直心有嫌弃，但还是答应替她找找工作，问问身为副市长的父亲王伟达。
