선라이즈 (당시엔 소에이샤) 최초의 로봇 애니메이션. 50화 완결로, 1975년 4월 4일 ~ 1976년 3월 26일까지 금요일 시간대로 NET 계열 방송국에서 방송되었다. 토호쿠 신샤가 기획했고 실제작은 소에이샤(창영사)가 맡았다. 원작은 각본가 스즈키 요시타케[1]. 감독은 초기에는 토미노 요시유키였으나 경질되고 나가하마 다다오로 교체되었다. 두 감독 모두 로봇 애니메이션은 처음이었기 때문에 마징가 시리즈와 다른 새로운 시도를 많이 했다.전작 제로 테스터의 스태프들이 대부분 제작을 맡았으며 야스히코 요시카즈가 본격적인 캐릭터 디자이너로 데뷔한 작품이기도 하다. 칸다 타케유키, 타카하시 모토스케, 츠지 마사키 등의 스탭도 참여했으며 이 작품의 스탭들의 대부분은 훗날 초전자로보 콤바트라 V를 만들게 된다
