1982年6月24日。ブリティッシュ・エアウェイズ009便に、不測の事態が起こった。客室に煙が充満し始める。両方のエンジンには火が回り、止まってしまった。そんな中、クルーはまぶしい火花のようなものが雨のように降ってきて、ウインドシールドに当たるのを目撃した。飛行機は落下を始めたが、海に落ちる直前に止まっていたエンジンが再始動し、なんとか無事空港に着陸。機を墜落の危機に追いやったものの正体とは？
