吹き荒れる冬の嵐を突いてフライドバイ981便がロシアのロストフ・ナ・ドヌ空港への最終進入を敢行する。しかし突然のウィンドシアによって着陸は中断を余儀なくされた。2時間にわたり上空の待機経路で機会を窺ったボーイング737の機長は2度目の着陸を試みるが再び復行。しかし上昇途中に急降下に転じ、滑走路端に墜落、全員死亡した。機体の不具合を疑った調査官たちが見つけたものは、パイロットが恐れる死の罠だった。
