2008年12月20日。アメリカのデンバー国際空港を離陸中のコンチネンタル航空1404便が突然左を向き滑走路を大きく飛び出して暴走、敷地内の窪地に落ちて炎上した。乗っていた乗員乗客115人全員が死を免れたものの、調査チームには原因究明の責任が課される。調査当初は、他のボーイング737でも起きていた致命的な機械トラブルの再発が原因かと危惧されたが、真の原因はロッキー山脈にあったという事が判明する。
