ブリティッシュミッドランド航空92便がヒースロー空港を飛び立って間もなく、機体が大きく揺れ始め、コックピットに煙の臭気が充満する。クルーは第2エンジンを停止させ、最寄りの空港へ緊急着陸を試みるも、着陸態勢に入ってすぐに第1エンジンまでもが故障。推力を失った機体はM1高速道路沿いの土手に激突する。事故は両側のエンジンの故障により発生したものと思われたが、その後の調査で真の原因が判明する。
