全国高等学校野球選手権・東東京大会、勢南高校VS明青学園の準決勝が始まった。調子の良さそうな投馬のピッチング。本人は「いつも通りだ」というが、試合に向けて投馬を研究していた西村監督と球を受け続けてきた走一郎は、突然の変化を感じ困惑していた。一方の西村も150km超えのストレートで明青打線を抑えていく。さらに、西村のカーブは走一郎を翻弄するほどになっていた。今までのデータがまったく役に立たない圧巻のピッチングが続き、ついに3回が終了しても両者無失点。ボールがバットにあたって前に飛んだだけでも大歓声が上がるほどの試合が続く中、勢南高校キャッチャー・田所が西村の球を捕り損ねたことで、明青学園の駒が初めて塁に出る。それでも闘志は衰えず、錦の送りバントは西村の送球によってダブルプレーとなる。激しい投手戦。果たして、決勝に進むのはどっちだ？
