5年前。15歳の娘・佳奈（藤﨑ゆみあ）と2人暮らしの 轟（仲村トオル）。HY法律事務所で数多くの依頼をこなし、法廷では冷静沈着で誰もが頼れる存在だった。しかし、娘をよく知る同期の桐石（及川光博）や昔なじみの刑事の浅見（りょう）からは、「弁護士としては申し分ないが、父親としてはどうだ？」と苦言を呈される。仕事に追われる日々の中で、思春期を迎えた佳奈とどこか距離を感じることも多くなっていた。父親としての振る舞いを改めて考えた轟は、1週間後に迫る佳奈の誕生日を親子2人で祝おうと計画を立てるのだった。 佳奈へのプレゼントに頭を悩ませながらも、ようやく迎えた誕生日当日。佳奈のために用意したプレゼントを手に、帰り道に轟は佳奈に帰宅時間を知らせるようメッセージを送る。しかし、いくら待っても佳奈からの返信はなく――。
