祭赛国金光寺中，僧人们衣衫褴褛，满面愁容，向唐僧师徒诉说一桩冤情：几年前一阵血雨过后，寺中塔顶的舍利子佛宝无影无踪。僧人们被罚受苦，沉冤难雪。为查失宝之因，唐僧虔诚地持帚与悟空进塔祭扫。至塔顶，悟空擒住一个小妖，得知佛宝被碧波潭万圣老龙王作法至潭底。悟空携八戒入潭，先礼后兵，与龙王之女乃圣公主及九头虫驸马交战。白龙马化做少年，入潭寻见乃圣公主，设计骗回佛宝，金光寺顶佛宝重放光芒。
