80年代，海州农民刘贵平和弟弟刘权贵、村花郝一朵，三个人从贫困的农村来到省城海州。哥哥刘贵平善良、好学，却把家中唯一念书的机会让给了弟弟。他为追随郝一朵一起踏入城市的大门。而一朵把她的婚礼聘金拿去投资，落入商业骗局当中，贵平为救一朵却遇到子桐，子桐为感谢贵平之前救她，她将贵平介绍到父亲单位工作，贵平踏实的工作作风赢得了苏文勇的好感。而弟弟权贵一次一次伤害贵平，贵平却不在意弟弟对自己所做的一切，他拼尽全力也要把弟弟拉回正道。而突发的脑瘤让权贵终于开始审视自己的人生，却在这时意外得知自己的身世之谜，巨大的刺激让他脑瘤爆裂从此变得痴傻。而贵平为了自己的梦想与子桐一起回农村，经过他们的共同努力，收获了事业与爱情
