胆小懦弱的大二学生肖墨近来一直被一个奇怪的梦所困扰着，直到生活中突然有了陆白（狐仙）的出现，这使得肖墨与姐姐肖蓉蓉平淡如水的生活开始变得鲜艳起来，可鲜艳的背后却往往充满着危险，命运里出现的喜怒哀乐、悲欢离合也总是冥冥之中就有所注定。 狐仙陆白不顾违背天道以身涉险来到现代寻找他的救命恩人；面对前世宿敌顾寒的各种刁难与陷害；面对身边人的猜疑与疏远，他依旧保持着一颗纯善之心。坚定着报恩信念的陆白揭开了所有人心里的疑惑，帮助恩人肖墨打败宿敌，寻回自我，但最终还是未能摆脱命运的束缚。 寻回自我的肖墨生命里再也没有了陆白的身影，平淡如水亦如往常，直到有一天陆白的突然再次出现 。
