在东京近郊的一栋房子里，住着一个8个人的大家庭。他们一起吃饭、说笑，看起来和一般的家庭没有什么不同。其实，这8个人并没有半点血缘关系，如果不是因为发生了“某个事件”，他们可能终其一生都不会有任何关联…… 泰国，一辆满载日本旅客的巴士驶往各个观光胜地。车上的乘客有的沉浸在幸福和喜悦中，也有的郁郁不乐、满怀心事。突如其来的车祸夺走了大多数乘客的生命，只有7个人奇迹般地生还，1个人因未乘上巴士而躲过一劫，但他们永远失去了至爱的亲人。3个月后，深深烙印在8人心中的伤痛丝毫未见愈合，为了祭奠故去的亲人，他们在事故发生地重逢了。在事故中失去新婚妻子的井坂将吾，认为在世界上，只有这些人才能理解彼此的感受，于是在回到日本后，向其他人发出了“大家一起生活怎么样？”的信件……
