主人公孝东是个急脾气，一点就着，虽然有很多优点，但是不够沉着，不够冷静，感情不太细腻，却是本剧能够发展的重要的索引。比如他对于父亲，虽然发自内心地爱父亲，感谢父亲，是个不折不扣的大孝子，但是却经常顶撞父亲，并令父亲难受。他在马西奈眼中是个绝对的白马王子，但是他却对张希爱一见钟情，并对马西奈的爱情很漠视。 这是剧情的一个重要的线索。希文与希爱兄妹俩人都想经营"紫禁城"，并以自己的能力和思想体系去发展它，这个矛盾必然为以后的一次次家庭冲突埋下伏笔，而爆发又一个高潮。这是张家内部的一个矛盾线索。 围绕着餐馆的经营和做人的原则，金氏父子与张家有着几十年的恩恩怨怨，这是本剧的中心线索，而这个矛盾是所有的主人公都不能回避的，也是他们每个人内心都想极力回避的，这一矛盾最后得到完满的结局，这也是本剧的最后的华彩。在剧中这个冲突有着"天使VS恶魔"的意义，显然天使就是金氏父子。
