故事发生在解放初期的西南边疆。这天，李红河（吴庆哲 饰）发现了遭残匪袭击而受伤的军医陈元地（王学兵 饰），并将其解救下来，并把他送到陈的故乡西头村养伤。阔别多年的妻子梅敏（王子文 饰）见到日夜思念的丈夫，心情很是激动，对他照料有加。然而，眼睛受伤暂时失明的陈元地冥冥之中感到哪儿不对劲，之后噩耗连连传来，先是妹妹死去，紧接着李红河坠亡，假妻子也不知所踪。治好眼睛的元地惊恐地发现，这根本不是自己的家乡，是有人布下的迷局。逃离西头村的陈元地找到县委张书记（郭凯敏 饰），原来，敌人是想找到陈家祖传的“搜神方”，因为里面隐藏着一个惊天秘密
