1937年抗战爆发，仇寇肆狂，北大、清华和南开三校学子辞却五朝宫阙，长途跋涉，暂住于衡山湘水，复又寄居春城，弦诵不绝，悠悠八载。联大自1937年长沙建校，至1946年三校复员，在校生不过8000人，毕业生3800人，却培养出两位诺贝尔获得者，78位中科院院士，12位中国工程院院士和一批著名的文学家、哲学家、翻译家、社会科学家和政治家，在中国乃至世界教育史上，都留下了光辉的一页。西南联大犹如一盏明灯，高悬西南一隅，维系着中华文明的一缕学脉。
