沉睡在黑水上
蔡明亮在1999年去了吉隆坡，当时马来西亚爆发首相安华的丑闻事件，安华定罪入监，在当地社会引起极大的回响。同时间，大量外籍劳工在街上游荡，他们在亚洲金融风暴期间失去了一切身家，致富的梦想也破灭了。导演蔡明亮依此着手拍摄关于他们的电影，多年后面貌更改，成为后来的《黑眼圈》。《沉睡在黑水之上》记录了蔡明亮在2006年回到吉隆坡拍摄《黑眼圈》的实况。
