Pushing Daisies gaat over het leven van Ned, een taartenbakker met het mysterieuze vermogen om dode dingen terug tot leven te brengen door ze aan te raken. Er zijn een aantal voorwaarden aan dit enigszins ongebruikelijke talent. Ned leert snel dat als er iets nieuw leven wordt ingeblazen voor meer dan precies een minuut, iets anders "het leven zal laten" in de omgeving van de oorspronkelijke dode, dit als een vorm van evenwicht. Bovendien, als hij de nieuw in-leven-geblazen persoon of het ding een tweede keer aanraakt, dan sterft het opnieuw, maar ditmaal definitief.
